History Without Walls is an organization that takes early American history beyond the textbook for your students. Our educators provide student-centered, engaging demonstrations of colonial life that promote discourse and encourage students to consider multiple perspectives, relative to the curriculum being used state-wide. Our uniquely designed experiences are highly engaging for visual and tactile learners as history comes to life before their eyes. Our presentations are accessible to all students and allow them to connect to colonial life. Student participation is encouraged as we guide them to construct their own knowledge.
Our dedicated educators have spent over 30 years perfecting and sharing their craft and knowledge as re-enactors of US History. In Connecticut, the CSDE recommends students begin studying the earliest settlements in North America, Colonial United States History, and the American Revolution in Grade 5. These standards are revisited again Grades 8-12. Our presentations range from an hour visit to an entire day at a fraction of the price of a traditional field trip. An initial consultation ensures we collaboratively meet the needs of your school and students.
Our historians visit schools dressed in period appropriate attire and set up displays of artifacts and images to help create a collaborative learning experience for the students and teachers they visit. This perspective leaves an everlasting impression on your students. In our experience, there's nothing better to spark an interest in colonial life than being greeted by a costumed re-enactor as they enter the school. The echoes of the special visitor will spread rapidly through the halls, generating excitement for their time travel adventure. Whether exploring colonial life as a part of your Social Studies or Literacy curriculum, History Without Walls is committed to providing authentic, interactive presentations that encourage students to explore a time-period otherwise unrelated to them.
